BUCKINGHAM Town battled the snowy conditions to train this week having now gone nearly three weeks without a competitive match.

New manager Neil Griffiths is still awaiting his first win after seeing his team beaten 3-1 by struggling Wootton Blue Cross in UCL Division One followed by a narrow 1-0 defeat in a friendly against Ampthill.

But the Robins’ manager is pleased with progress so far. He said: “I’ve been very pleased with the turnout and commitment of the lads in what is a tough time with the weather.

“We have to remain as professional as possible. We were fortunate enough to use the powerleague’s 3g astro facility at Walnut Tree.

“We had 18 training which – given we had a couple of injuries – is a superb turn out.”

Griffiths faces an uphill task as the club currently sit in a lowly 18th position in the table having played more games than the teams around them.

The Robins have also had their financial troubles this season with a number of players leaving the club in the past few months, which has resulted in struggles to get a full squad out for some matches.

But – with the addition of five new signings since he came in – Griffiths remains happy with what he has at his disposal going into a crucial period of the season.

He added: “I can’t ask for more from the group. We need to take this commitment into what is going to be gruelling end of season run in.

“I’ve been impressed with what was already here and with the additions we have a very strong squad.

“It is beginning to blend with every session we have, the understanding of each other’s attributes and relationships are forming all the time.

“Tuesday’s game was off again which gives us another opportunity to train and by then I will be very comfortable to take this collective group into competitive fixtures.”

Weather-permitting, Buckingham host mid-table side Bourne Town tomorrow.
