Buckingham 1st XV closed in on the Southern Counties North title after a 48-0 victory against Tadley.
In difficult weather conditions, Buckingham made a slow start but gradually worked their way into a 22-0 half time lead.
Andy White kicked an early penalty and tries from Jamie Hartnett and Callum Gillie, the latter converted by White, put Buckingham in control before a further try by Thompson, again converted by White, took the score to 22-0 at half time
The second half continued in the driving rain with Buckingham scoring tries at regular intervals.
Three minutes in, White got the first points on the board with an unconverted try to take the score to 27-0 before a penalty try was awarded to the home side on the 30-minute mark.
Further tries in the last ten minutes went to Gillie again and to captain Tom Amos.
White converted all three tries to complete a convincing 48-0 victory, which took Buckingham’s points tally this season past the 1,000 mark.
The result moves Buckingham three points clear at the top with the title chase between themselves and Grove heading into the final weekend of the season.
Buckingham need a win at mid-table Thatcham this weekend to clinch the title.
