Winslow United continued their promising start to the season with a 3-0 victory over Risborough Rangers on Tuesday evening.
The win was Winslow’s third in five games this season, putting them 10th in SSML Division Two having played fewer games than those around them.
United gave a debut to Rob MacDonald on Tuesday as they entertained Risborough.
The first half saw Winslow dominate possession and they looked the likelier to break the deadlock but wasted numerous chances in a frustrating opening 45 minutes.
Drew Mitten curled an effort wide of the post and Vinny Shrieves headed over while the visitors came closest to scoring with an effort that struck the underside of the bar and bounce away to safety.
With the sides level at the break, it was the hosts who took the lead when Mitten directed in a cross following good work from Shrieves.
Minutes later United doubled their lead with Mitten again on the score sheet as he volleyed home Liam Gallagher’s cross for his ninth goal in Winslow’s opening three home games.
Mitten then turned provider when, in the 81st minute, his shot rebounded to Shrieves, who was on hand to fire the ball into the net and seal all three points.
Winslow saw out the remaining minutes without conceding - giving them their first clean sheet of the season.
Earlier in the week, on Saturday, Winslow were narrowly beaten 2-1 by early league leaders FC Broxbourne Borough.
Goals from Abiodun-Dacosta and Hughes fired the dominant hosts into an early 2-0 lead before Jakub Kasprzyk’s second half strike put the visitors back in the game, but Winslow were unable to find an equaliser.
Winslow are without a game this weekend but host Buckingham Athletic in the Buckingham Charity Cup next Tuesday at 7.30pm.
