Buckingham Town remain in danger of relegation in Cherwell League Division One after their poor form continued with a 44-run
defeat to fourth-placed Twyford.

Despite a strong start to the season, Town now find themselves in relegation trouble as they sit third from bottom on 195 points with one game remaining.

After winning the toss and choosing to bat, Twyford lost a wicket to the first ball of the match as Mahmood chipped Simon Myatt to cover.

The Buckingham opening bowlers were accurate and the top order struggled against them as they slipped to 28-4.

Ross Lyon (30) and Naeem Khan (26) started the recovery with a 50 partnership before both fell relatively quickly to the bowling of Jack Parish and Ben Laycock.

Ben Elkington came in at number eight and changed the momentum of the game with a run-a-ball 44.

He was supported by Afzal (18), Stanway (21) and Roberts (10 not out) as Twyford reached a competitive 201-9.

Myatt was by far the pick of the bowlers as he bowled 21 overs and took 4-43.

The Buckingham reply could not have got off to a worse start, collapsing to 8-3 inside four overs.

Ben Laycock (40) and Myatt (48) looked to have brought Buckingham back into the game with a partnership of 89 in 18 overs.

The visitors were starting to take control of the match before a spell of 14 runs for five wickets in 41 balls left them 111-8.

Wayne Platts and Harry Martin came together and put on 46 in nearly 20 overs to see Buckingham to the final over before two wickets in two balls gave Twyford victory by 44 runs.

Buckingham host Oxford IIs this weekend with a win vital to ensure safety, while Twyford visit Shipton-under-Wychwood.
