Torrential rain midway through the afternoon at Silverstone last Saturday failed to prevent the Bentley Drivers’ Club from completing the action at their 65th annual race meeting at the local track, writes James Beckett.
Nine races were held around the 1.6-mile National Circuit, including the feature event for the Tony Morgan-Tipp Memorial Trophy, which was won in fine style by Keith Ahlers at the wheel of his Morgan +8.
A host of Bentley races were on the programme, as well as Allcomers races and handicap events that saw local racers Ben Eastick and Clive Temple in action.
Eastick, fresh from competition at Silverstone Classic, raced his Jaguar D Type for the final time ahead of next month’s Goodwood Revival, while Temple was seen on-track in his Riley Brooklands.
Temple was racing during the heaviest rain, and he said afterwards: “Conditions were very bad indeed but everyone drove really well and respected each other and we all finished without drama. Again, the Bentley Drivers’ Club have organised another first class club meeting. I am looking forward to next year and their 66th annual event!”
