BUCKINGHAM artist Martin Ford is pictured above standing at the view point from which he painted St James Lake in Brackley.

Mr Ford, who is a regular contributor to the Advertiser’s short story section (page 101), is preparing to hold an exhibition of his art work at Brackley Library next month.

Around 30 pastel drawings will feature familiar scenes from around Brackley and Buckingham, as well as London landmarks including the National Gallery and Big Ben, and scenes from the Continent.

It is the first time Mr Ford has displayed work in an exhibition solely comprising his work since receiving a distinction in a City and Guilds art course at Bletchley College in 2009.

Mr Ford has been drawing since childhood, encouraged by his draftsman father, and occasions when his mother took him to work and kept him out of trouble by giving him paper and pencils. After discovering the work of French impressionist Edgar Degas, Mr Ford became fixated on pastel.

He said: “Once I discovered Degas I found I loved the texture and detail you can achieve with pastel. It is hard to work with, you have to be disciplined, but I liked the challenge.”

The exhibition will take place at the library in Manor Road from Monday, April 2 until Monday, April 30.
