EAST WEST RAIL: Campaigners have welcomed a statement by those behind the East West Rail project they are confident funding for the £280million project will be found.
The Treasury’s Autumn statement gave the go ahead for the scheme to link Reading to Bicester, Winslow and Bedford on the conditions that a satisfactory business case could be found and that a local contributions could be secured. On Tuesday the board of local authorities on the East West Rail Consortium met and acknowledged the strength of their business case.
A statement on their website said: “The meeting expressed confidence that the two conditions can and will be met.”
Chris Wright of the Oxon and Bucks Rail Action said he was surprised and delighted that project was now gathering pace.
