Two outline planning applications for major housing developments in Winslow went before Aylesbury Vale District Council’s strategic development control committee on Wednesday.

Councillors unanimously agreed a proposal by Land & Partners for a development of 250 homes on land adjacent to Furze Lane. An application by Gladman Developments for 211 houses on land at Glebe Farm, off Verney Road, was again rejected.

The Furze Lane development is one of the sites defined in the Winslow Neighbourhood Plan, while the Glebe Farm proposal is outside the area defined in the plan.

The Winslow Neighbourhood Plan is currently at the examination stage but already has significant weight in planning terms. Provided the examination is successful, the plan will go on to a community referendum for final approval.

Chairman of the neighbourhood plan steering group, town councillor Llew Monger, said: “This is good news for Winslow and shows the committee is strongly supportive of the plan developed by the community, whereas proposals which are contrary to the plan are being rejected.”

Land & Partners director Jonathan Harbottle said: “We firmly believe that by creating special places of high quality and listening to local people, it is possible to challenge the existing mass housebuilder model of housing delivery. We are grateful for the unanimous support given to our plans and look forward to working on the details of the scheme.

“Specific mention was made by councillors of the self-build plots, as this is a sector of the housing market that has so much potential yet is really suppressed from lack of suitable sites in the district.”

He urged people to register interest in self-build plots at www.winslow-vision.com
