A modern retelling of a classic comic opera, which swaps soldiers for bikers, is coming to Stowe.
Bicester-based Opera Della Luna, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary, will be performing The Daughter of the Regiment at the Roxburgh Theatre on July 25 and 27.
The Daughter of the Regiment is a modern take on Gaetano Donizetti’s La Fille Du Regiment, which tells the story of a girl raised by one of California’s most notorious biker gangs who attracts the interest of a glamorous socialite. The original is set in the Tyrolean mountains.
The show is fresh from the Iford Festival near Bradford on Avon and has received positive reviews with the Fine Times Recorder calling it a ‘rip-roaring, revelatory triumph’.
The new version is sung in English and is by Jeff Clarke.
Tickets are £60. The Friday show starts at 7.30pm with the Sunday show starting at 6pm. Opera goers can picnic in the nearby grounds from two-and-a-half hours before the performance.
You can buy tickets online at www.operadellaluna.org/stowe or by calling 01869 325131.
Pre-made picnics can be ordered and delivered from the nearby Boycott Farm Shop.
The show is sponsored by The Vet Centre, at Maids Moreton.
