Richie Stanaway scored an impressive victory for the Silverstone-based Status Grand Prix GP3 Series team at the Hungaroring in Hungary last Saturday when he won the opening GP3 event at the Hungarian Grand Prix.

In a double celebration for the team, Nick Yelloly drove to third to strengthen his championship position. The British racer is sixth in the standings with the next two rounds of the championship scheduled to take place at the end of August around the famous Spa-Francorchamps track in Belgium.

After his victory, Stanaway said: “This is a great result for the team and for myself. The championship is very finely balanced and we are now entering the mid-season break. This was an important race weekend to score good points at and we can all now work hard for Spa and the next races.”

In Sunday’s second race, Stanaway was able to add further points to his tally by finishing sixth, although Yelstruggled to 11h in a race won by Patric Niederhauser.

Yelloly said: “This has been another good weekend for the team. I was happy to finish third in race one and would have liked to score more points in race two, but I remain full of confidence and looking forward to the next race at Spa.”
